Remember what tire sizes mean.

Stock was 215/60 R15

So 215mm section width and 60% of that in side wall height on 15" rim

Then
225/60 R15 would be too tall since 60% of 225 would be larger than 60% of 215.

Now for width I use a 225/50 on my 15x7 wheels. This is a shorter tire than stock however. So 225 will work. 235 might go on a 7" rim with enough section hight so...
215x60% = 129
235x55 = 129.25

So a 235/55 R15 is probably the max if tires are even made in that size.
I don't think you can get a 245 tire on the 7" rim.

For the rears on my 951 (stock 225/50 R16) I went to 245/45 R16. This gives you a 20mm wider tire and the diameter is very close to the orginal (99.3% original diameter).

Yep,
205/55R16 Front and 225/50R16 rear are standard on Turbo with 16x7 fronts and 16x8 Rears

Turbo S wheels are
225/50R16 Front and 245/45R16 Rear
These came on 16x7 and 16x9 wheels but can easily be run on 16x7 and 16x8 wheels.

You might be able to get 255's to 265's on 8" rim, but not sure.

ah yes.. thanks for reminding me m758

so basically i can get this:
205/60-15 for front and
225/55-15 for rear

because according to this nifty tire calculator:
<a href="http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html" target="_blank">http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html</a>
that will make my fronts 4.8in sidewall
and my rears 4.9in sidewall

what im wondering is can you put 225 on a stock 7" wide rim? i think you can right?
almost the same revolutions per minute, 817 vs 815, this is okay right? this was stock size for turbo afterall..

Why not 225/55 on all 4 corners?

I run 225/50 on mine?

I think they put the 205/55R16 Front and 225/50R16 on turbos stock to induce some understeer.

Probably best to use the same size all the way round with another set of wheels and winter tires rather than compromise and be good at neither!

But then again being from Arizona I can't say that I have driven in snow for 14 months (and that was a special trip)
