I did a job for a guy who recently purchased one of those really cheap 944's
I haven't seen a motor so covered in oil in a long time. It made a mess in my garage that took me 2 days to clean, lol. The car had started puffing white smoke, and he wanted to do rod bearings, headgasket, pump, belts, etc so I took the job on, not having any idea what I was in store for, lol. Pulled everything apart on the top end to find silicone damn near everywhere in the motor, even plugging the oil passages in the cam tower. Headgasket was covered with silicone, it was awesome.
Thought you guys might enjoy the pictures. My arrows are really small, but point to the silicone oozing out of ports here and there.

That's funny. I just scraped a bunch of that junk off of some parts tonite and said to myself ... "If it is done right this crap is not necessary".

The state of some of these cars is getting to be just embarrassing. Glad the new owner has taken it someone who knows what they're doing and will set things right. Give the new owner a thumbs up from Brisbane, Australia!

I should take a picture of the 85.5 I am trying to save. He siliconed everything on the car (interior, exterior, door handles, dash gaps, sunroof, window seals, etc. The interior looks like a dog lived in it for a year and smells like it. The exterior is flat black with dents and terrible bodywork. I started by replacing every plastic piece in the dash and will work my way down and back. So far, the instrument cluster, cluster surround/trim plastic, a/c control unit, digital clock, steering wheel and all plastics on the dash has been replaced including all switches on the dash (headlight switch was hacked and all wires cut and exposed with melted insulations). It took me an hour just to de-rig the cut melted wires and solder/repair/replace all bad wires. The ignition lock was removed and repaired/rekeyed to the glove box lock (replaced too). Next will be replacement door panels, complete sterilization of carpet after I replace and throw away the old seats. After that I will have to replace the sunroof and all related mechanisms. 4 fuses were blown and 1 relay was dead so that was fun to track down where the problems were. I should take pictures of the car before and after in a different thread.

I did that and had to replace about 15 fuses of wrong values. I had to take fuses and relays from 2 other extra fuse panels from parts cars as I ran out of 7.5 amp fuses. I was so afraid of the previous owner's handiwork I physically checked one relay against another from a parts panel.
