Please divulge your source. Even though I have historic plates on my 914, my insurance company still charges me $800/year for just liability.

Haggerty, Heacock, Sneed, Grundy, Leland West, among others that offer exotic/classic insurance. Has stipulations though.
I was quoted 350 from Grundy on my 1994 968 M030 at a 23000 agreed upon value. 400 from Haggerty. Can't drive a lot with that insurance though (don't plan to), and you most have an alternate daily driver and no driving the car to work/school. Sneed offers occasional driving to work with an upgraded policy. I have the car insured currently with USAA at around 700 per year as a normal car for reference. Need to get off my butt and get it insured properly at an agreed upon value.

Ihad classic on my Firebird for 20 years, had it on my gray S2 also. Problem is the limitations, and it is only about 900 for full coverage with Geico here in CO. I just dont put the miles on to justify two cars anymore. If we go anywhere on the weekend we jump into the volvo. just easier for the kid to go into her seat, her XM station etc.

My S is valued at $15,000 with an appraisal thru my insurance as a "classic" or "collector" car...no limitations at all. I can drive anywhere, any time. Its thru ING, it costs $250 per year...full coverage, $0 deductible.
Keep her Tom...you'll regret it!
