Default 944S barn door mount question....

I am fabbing up a cold air intake to the left front fender hole, then adding a heat shield (for the flamers out there) with a K & N tapered air element. The flange on the barn-door is 4 inches ID with the rubber gasket, so I've got some 4 inch tubing to go to the fender well. However, the barn door sits up a little high.

Can I remove the mount which it bolts to the inner fender to lower it without any problems?

I can't think this will cause any. I will of course modify the mount to reattach at the lower position.

Discuss.
