Post How Much Oil?

I am about to do my first oil change on my 87 924S, and I was wondering what the oil cpacity was. I tried searching but came up with many differnt numbers, from 5.8 quarts to 6.5 quarts. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

If the 924S is the same as the 944 na (pretty sure it is), with a filter change, put in six. Start the engine to fill the filter. Get the car level, switch off, let it sit for ten minutes or longer to allow some drain-back time. Check the dipstick, add as needed to bring it up to full. It'll be very near seven quarts, +/- a little.

I think that part of the variation you see in published figures is due to the external oil cooler on some models (968 I know, 944S2 & turbo also, I think). Maybe also the tendency of track guys to overfill a little to help with oiling problems in long curves.

Jim, clear as mud, yes???

Conor, When I did mine- I used 5 quarts, and the low oil light came on.. I actually used a little over 6 quarts.. I love the Nail thru the Oil filter trick- keeps the engine bay free of oil when removing the filter. What oil/ weight do you plan on using? I stick with Mobil 1- but due to temp changes in weather i use different viscosities in winter/ summer. it seemed to make sense to me.. any thoughts on this?

Just finished...took about 2 hours, and I spilled oil all over the garage. Oh well, it was my first oil change ever, not just on the p-car so I think it went well. I used danno's plastic bag method for the filter and didn't spill a drop! Thanks for everyones help. BTW I ended up using a little less than 6.75 quarts.
