Post low oil pressure = spark?

just wondering
is it possible to have low oil pressure (around 2 bar instead of the usual 2.5-3) because of crappy spark plug wires? or what else could it be besides a gasket or something.. this is a recently development and along with my idle->rpm drop to 0 on/off problem im wondering if its connected somehow? just wondering thanks!

Can't see at all how oil pressure would affect spark.

Nope...

All other things held constant, oil pressure is a function of RPM.

What weight oil are you running? It's been pretty warm out...

Do the RPM's actually drop to 0 (car stalls) or does the tach just indicate that they do? I would check all the usual: DME Relay, TPS, AFM

hey adrial

well.. with the oil pressure ive just noticed its around 2 when warm instead of the norm 2.5.. im running 10w30 right now.. should i go to 20w50 for summer? maybe thats all it is, before i was running 10w40...

with the rpm drop, the car chokes up pretty bad, it doesnt usually stall out, it seems like it might but it usually recovers at the last moment..

hmm dme i guess i could swap for my other one just for fun... tps and afm, how would i go about checkin those?

hows your car? whats up with the bent frame, is it not as bad as you first thought or what? (i havent been keeping up with rennlist)

I have an idea. Crappy spark plug wires cause misfire in some of the cylinders which makes it run bad and at a lower idle RPM. Oil pressure will be lower at the low RPM. Also if enough cylinders have misfired, you could have fuel build up in the oil from unburned gas in the misfiring cylinders. That would thin out the oil and lower the pressure. Smell the oil on the dipstick and if it smells like it is really full of gas then change the oil (I use 20w50 in the summer) if it has gas in it. Also fix the spark problem or the oil will fill with gas again.

Simon (operator),

When its about to stall, what happens if you give it gas? Does it rev fine?

At what RPM does your car idle?

when its about to stall... ive tried giving it gas, it chokes a bit and shoots up, its hard to give it just enough to stabalize, but i have saved it, now i just dont touch it at all when it happens and it saves itself

it idles around 800 rpm or so..

Check the AFM...

search the archives for the test info...

Also check the TPS

That'd be the first 2 things on my list...
