Since I have owned my car, I have not messed around much with the alarm system, but I am wondering if it even works... There's a keyhole just behind the drivers side keyhole, I am guessing this is how you activate it? The ignition key fits in there alright, but I don't think anything really happens when I put the key in there and try to turn it. What is an alarm system supposed to be like on an 84 944? Thanks.

man, that thing is FUNNY. You have to actually OPEN the door for it to go off. Try it!
BTW, the power wire can apparently be cut from outside the car through the gap between hood and windshield, w/longnose wire cutters, disabling the system...
Like I said, FUNNY.

<img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> Ignition key won't do it ... shouldn't even be able to turn the alarm lock with it. (Yes, the keyhole beside the drivers door is the alarm key cylinder). You'll need the special alarm key and if you don't have it, apparently you're out of luck and need to replace the entire tumbler.
Probably not worth bothering about with all the aftermarket alarms out there now unless you want that factory feel

Mine works I set it off by accident more than it's worth
A buddy put an alpine alarm system in his 83 944 (600.00) with lock actuators, a neato little backlit lcd display and a bunch of extra functions like window roll down and the like.
