944 Rennbay Tow Hook Install help.
Okay. So where the hell does this thing go?!
Its going on a 1984 944. I just spent twenty minutes looking for the three bolts or even the three rubber plugs that the instructions refer to.
I searched, didnt find anything. Theres gotta be a write-up here somewhere, right?
Please help fellas.

The one for the front or the one for the rear? The front one gets screwed into the bumper support bar that is covered up by a plastic cover right above the front license plate in the front grille opening. The rear one gets bolted up to the three bolt holes in the bottom inner sides of the rear storage cubbys.

Yeah, to install it on the rear you would have to pull up the carpet so that you can reach down into the storage cubby on either side to install the bolts and whatnot. You can also see the holes it will mount to if you look under the car from the rear - it should be pretty obvious where the holes are since the cubbys are one of, if not the lowest point on the rear of car.

No, there should already be holes there. On my 86 turbo there was some factory plate with bolts that were filling the holes that I had to remove, but worse case you would only need to buy some bolts (I would assume). Here is a pic of the mounting area with another style hook.

Maybe? I haven't personally looked in that area on early cars, so I can't say. I would say they probably didn't if you're not finding them though. They were pretty damn obvious on my car.

I had an early 83 spec car in the other day as well. No factory drilled holes in that car either. My 86 has them drilled from the factory though.

That point was used by the factory to tie to cars down for the trip from Germany. When the cars got here, it was up to the dealer to 'take care of them'. Most dealers (especially in the later years), just removed the hook and put the nuts back on , leaving the plate intact. It looks as though your dealer actually attempted to weld up the holes prior to respraying the area with undercoating. You should be able to get to the backside of those holes in the rear cubby area - are there any more clues there?
My car (an '87), had three short bolts w/ nuts on them, and a reinforcing plate inside the cubby area. I just removed the nuts, put the tow hook in place and reinstalled the nuts. Sounds easy, but the bolts were held on very well by 'natures locktite'. They were pretty large nuts though - 19mm sounds right.

OR you can get the one that requires you to drill the bumper and mount it to the bumper using the screws...
I could be wrong
