Question Koni question, Skip??

Okay, I am nearing the completion of my suspension project. The final step (except for an alignment) is the install of the Koni strut inserts and 250lb Weltmeister springs. All of this stuff is arriving today from Paragon (thanks Jason!). So, my question is, since my car is an 85.5 and has the struts set up already for inserts, I won't need to drill and cut anything like they did in the Excellence article on their 87 944, right? Just dissasemble the old, clean and paint the body, and install the new inserts and springs, right?

I'm taking pics of my progress, will post them after this weekend. Last weekend I installed the Koni yellows in the rear, and dropped the ride height. I can't wait for the front to be completed now...

No drilling required. Just be aware that after 16+ years of crap building up between the strut and the canister it might be hard to get them out. I had this problem and just sprayed some Liquid wrench down in there and let them sit for awhile.

Also, when you remove the nut that holds the strut inside the canister, Paragon's directions call for a special tool, well I just used a hammer and a flat head screw driver. This might sound sort of confusing, but you will understand when you get it all done.

Have fun!!

OK, thanks Jason. I'll take your word for it that I'll figure it out when I see it. I hope that the screwdriver works instead of the special tool, whatever it is...

Hopefully this will go smooth so that I can go to the Auto-X sunday! (a corvette club event)

They come apart pretty easy,I did my 85.5 last month, you do need a good size monkey wrench to unscrew the strut once the spring is off.And IIRC you need a 7 mm and the 22mm deep offset socket to get the top srtut mount(under the hood) or an air gun.I dont think the air gun was reccommended ,but works.
The difference on my ,the astruts were shot, was amazing!!I also upgrade to turbo sway bars, that and new tires really helped.

FWIW, I used an air gun when I did mine with Koni Yellows, and I had no problems. I used a deep well 22MM socket and just zipped it off. Pulled the springs up and off...and then laid it on it's side.

This is where the hammer and the flat head screw driver come into play. If you lay it on it's side and put one end up on a step of something like that, you can then put on foot on the strut casing to brace it and just knock the nut off.

Seems kind of wordy, but you will see what I mean. I aplogize for my sort of confusing remark this morning....way to early on a Friday!!!
