IceShark Headlight Kit
#31
My wiring kit just showed up (literaly) and I've never seen this level of quality in an automotive application- this stuff is suhweeet!!! I won't have a chance to install for a week or two, I have the H-4s and the 90/100s in already and could not beleive the diff. w/ just that. Ice has said that w/ the new harness my output will almost double.
For anyone considering the purchase I now realize how pathetic the lighting coming from my throwaway halogens were: 2 yellowish paths out maybe 60-70 ft. brights helped some. Now there is a solid white blanket a good 100 ft. +, and with the dims on reflective signs illuminate almost a mile out on a completely dark level road, and nobody flashes brights at me- but I'm still waiting for some clown w/ his fogs on (pet peeve) to flash me.
I drive some dark rural roads frequently and now don't worry about not seeing deer til it's too late.
I've learned the lesson about buying quality. Whether bicycles or R/C trucks for my son or something like this, if you pay more to start with, years down the road you still have a superior unit compared to new and cheap.
You do get what you pay for.
All this talk about how good these are is about to give me-Oh hell nevermind that.
When I first ordered these I started to wonder what the hell I was doing spending $150 on "new lights". Even w/o the harness in yet I realize this is worth every dollar I spent on it and more.
I urge all to get a set of these, you will not regret this purchase.

Thanks for the complements, Paul, glad you like it. Satisfied customer, that is what we shoot for. Hope Keith's Dad doesn't see this post because you got that harness kit out from under his procrastination nose. LOL!
You never gave me your voltage measurement on stock wiring with the bulb burning. But based on others and their measurments and you with an '87 car (older, more corroded wiring), I would bet you are going to get well over 100% additional light with the harness in on those 90/100 bulbs. Not "almost double" (that was me keeping an eye towards managing unreasonable expectations), you may really crush double as some guys drop below 11 volts trying to run 90/100s on stock wiring.
Just make sure you aim these properly. I dragged up the old thread for David Floyd on headlight aiming, today.
No BlueBulb Ricer better get into a headlight war with you as if you flip on the main (high) beam you will blow him off the road.
Man, you got that package quick, I just shipped it the other day. Another reason I use FedEx ground rather than UPS.

Just a quick update on my voltage situation. I took my digital voltmeter, and took a measurement at the battery. Got 12.7 volts, so I moved the ground to the chassis and got the same 12.7. I then moved the ground to the valve cover and got 12.69. That tells me my grounds are probably in pretty good shape. I then started the car with the meter still attached to the battery. After the car started, the voltage on the meter went up to about 13.4 volts. The in dash guage showed just under (approx) 13. I then swapped in the new battery. Now with the car running, the indash meter shows just over 13 volts, so the new batt obviously has improved things. We'll see what happens when I drive it at night with the A/C!
I will be sending IceShark my money for the new voltage regulator tho. Hopefully, with that added to the mix, my low-voltage problem will be a memory. Now I'm starting to have second thoughts about getting a set of those lights too!

john, you should be running at least 13.8v, maybe a tad more, at the battery while at idle with nothing other than standard on. So you are low and my guess would be battery sucking more than your wires can let pass without taking a resistance toll. Bet a new ground would help a bunch.
I'm starting a new list on Full Boat wiring kits. That includes headlights, bulbs, harness & regulator. If you want in on it let me know and send $100 deposit. You will get the deposit back if not enough guys sign up to make it happen. The deposit is the only way I can figure out if the guys I don't already know are real. You can ask other Rennlisters about my honesty and if I'm likely to steal your deposit.

Ribs,
"Happy as a Clam" is the same as "happy as a pig in ****" but the way you talk around your Grandmother and such. Keeps you from getting your head smacked by your Dad. Which I have had happen a few times. The funny thing is most older Grandmothers went through WW2. There is about nothing that would shock them. Tough old birds. REALLY Tough!
Another old term is "built like a brick $hithouse". What you apply to really fine women or this wiring kit.

Too true- I think many people would be incredibly surprised at what their older relatives could take- many of them have been to the end of the world and back, and have experienced things many of us have only read about in books...
BTW- I've never heard the term "built like a brick sh**house" being used to describe a WOMAN- I've heard less classy ladies use it to describe some men, however. There's just something about that phrase- I don't really think it would be a compliment to me to have a freind say- "hey Robby, that chick you banged last night looks like a brick sh**house!" or "Man, Robby- that new girlfreind of yours is hot- she's built like a brick sh**house..." I think I'd want to forget that description if I heard it in reference to a girl I'd been with...

over 40d-22-36 and a face like an angel. You will soon forget about all the terms used to describe. or you are a fricking moron and someone really did drop you on your head while young.

I'm sure you are right Mike.
Just looking in the underware drawer at bras so at least I'm im the right ballpark. The tail end of tags are worn off so all I know it could be trips. I don't care, they are just fine with me.

Sorry to break up suck an interesting discussion... No-one would rather talk about such things than me. : )
Anyhow, I'd like to sign up for a full boat kit. Need to know where to send the cash though.
Heck, compared to the lights I put on my 4000 quattro, these are a steal. That kit ran almost $750.... Half what I paid for the car. ; )

Greg, send me an e-mail at wraydan@msn.com. I'll tell you where to send and what the status is. I've got some minimum order quantities to overcome on one parts supplier in particular for the wiring harness. If we get enough new buyers together by the end of this week, I'll put in the orders for a new harness build starting after the 4th of July. The new Cibie order won't be in North America until then anyway and I need to check supplier inventory levels.
Believe it or not, I'm actually cleaning out entire North American inventories on some of these parts orders. Guess I'm a small Shark in a really tiny pond.

I just finished installing the lenses, bulbs, and voltage regulator without the full boat wiring kit and the difference is astonishing.
If anyone is on the fence or simply cannot get the whole wiring setup, I would definitely recommend this route.
