Default Shipping a shortblock?

I'm shipping a shortblock and haven't done it before so I am a little lost.

Does anyone know....

How much a 951 shortblock weigh?

Pallet or pallet/crated?

Any recommended shippers?

Thanks...

Well the block itself is light enough to carry around on your shoulder. The crank can be lifted and carried but it's heavier than the block. With pistons, rods, wrist pins, oil pump, oil pan (?), bellhousing (?). I would guess around 175 - 230 lbs depending on what is still bolted on.

Well, it would the block, flywheel, bellhousing, crank, pistons and rods. Oil cooler and cylinder head. And I guess the weight of the pallet as well.

Any ideas?

Use Forward Air, you can find their locations on their website www.forwardair.com

Find a pallet at Home Depot or Lowes, I have always gotten them for free with no problem. I have shipped complete engines for $100-$150 and never had anything get damaged.

+1

Pallets can be had for the asking, if you don't ask they may call the police (don't ask how I know this, but I want to send a big shout out to the Henrico county Police department..thanks for understanding)

Walk into the store and ask for a pallet, 99% of the time they will say "sure they are on the side/front/back of the building", sometimes they will send someone to get you a primo on if they are bored.... Tell them what you need it for, they might even try to make sure you get a good one that will work for your needs...

OK, I just made arrangements for a pallet but I still can't figure out the weight.
I tried Forward Air, but the website is offline for rate quotes. The cheapest I have found so far is $310 based on 275 lbs.

I have never used the site for getting a quote. Just estimate the weight and give them a call and explain what your shipping and they will come up with a pretty close estimate.
