Not aware of an upgraded aluminum pressure plate for the na cars - savings would be weight only (and not much of it - center must remain spring steel, outside can be milled down aluminum), as the na cars have adequate clamping force for stock and slightly upgraded HP. There is a lightweight flywheel available. Does exactly what they advertise - frees up the engine to rev faster and transfer more of the available power to the wheels.

Good Luck!

I have a 1971 240Z with an aftermarket lightweight aluminum flywheel that was installed by a previous owner. It does rev faster but it sort of has the effect of lessening low end torque. For instance if you wanted to break the tires loose from a standstill it is harder to do because you have very little inertia in the lightweight flywheel. The low inertia also intensifies the effect of engine braking, which I like.

The very fast reving coupled with the stock "racey" throttle cam in the Z make it a challenge to shift smoothly as far as matching the RPMs go. Not that I don't like that, but it is a challenge. Its kind of like having a digital throttle - on, or off.

Hope that gives you some idea of what a lightweight flywheel is like.

Alan
