Crankcase Pressure/ Oil Cap Smoke

I have a 1984 944 with a really weird prob. When I take the oil cap off smoke/vapor comes out like it would out of an exhaust pipe, and not just for a few seconds, it does this constantly. In fact if I rev the car above about 5500 RPM's the crankcase pressure will push my dipstick out and spray oil in the engine compartment. I took the crankcase vent unit out and checked it for clogging, it works fine. However, when I did this I discovered oil in the intake hose where the vent recirculates the crankcase air back into the intake. A few notes: the engine is not overfilled with oil, the car does not smoke like it is burning oil, the car performs as it should otherwise. Any ideas? Thanks, John

i hate to be a pessimist, but you could have a scored cylinder or two... on my dads 85.5 944, the #3 cylinder is scored unmercifully but somehow the car has even compression, and the only problems with oil are that it is being blown out the crankcase via the oilpan gasket. this problem is not too bad, but i also have the oil in the intake boot from the crank vent. this car does not BURN oil, it just blows it out the crankcase, which at open throttle and accelerating (oil sloshes to back of crankcase where the hole in the oilpan gasket is) makes oil come out and hit the exhaust, causing smoke. the engine runs strong... as far as that dipstick problem, that may be caused by lack of hole in the oilpan gasket, and lack of area for crankcase pressure to be releived, so its coming out of your dipstick. how many miles are on your car? ever rebuilt?
as far as the vapor coming out the cap, i think that's somewhat normal (can someone back me up on that?)
hope you find the problem and a quick/easy/cheap solution!
happy driving
