Post Speaker popping/electrical probs...

Well, I just returned from a much-needed vacation on Sat. so, of course, the first thing I do Sunday is start working on the car . Replaced crest seal/finished battery box, some other minor things, but a new problem has arisen. Radio will work fine, but, after engaging the PW switches from the driver's side, all four speakers cut-out completely or start popping. After the initial cut-out, problem will continue intermittantly even when swithces are not touched. Haven't had time to investigate yet, but my guess is a ground problem?? Where are the grounds for the instument cluster anyways? Any other thoughts? All help welocme .

Check for speaker wire touching/grounding. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Paul,
Would that cause all 4 to go out at the same time? Tonight I am going to check the grounds under the dash(found their location in dermass' post--missed that this morning) and then proceed to the drivers' door. I just think it odd that only the PW switches cause the cut-off(although could make life very easy by limiting the search to that area only) and that it came about all of a sudden.

Keith,

Last night I pulled the head unit, but before serious troubleshooting, threatening thunder made me wrap it up for the night. Although on my drive home (before head unit was out) I noticed that the speakers also cut out when making left turns which leads me to believe some wires are definately grounding out. I will keep you updated. What is strange is that a friend of mine with an 87"S" has also been experiencing the same problem--weird.
