Default Rebuilt 951 HEads?

Off chance I may need to replace my 87 951 head. Is there a place that refurbs these that I can take a look at? I can't seem to find anyone who is selling these online - but somone has to be.

Hello,

I don't know anyplace that sells them online. You should call a few local machine shops. Is there something in particular that is wrong with your head (the one on the car, not your neck )? Usually, your head can be reconditioned for a lot less than the cost of a new head.

Good luck,
Barry

I've got my car at my local shop right now - blown head gasket. He noticed some coolant in the cylinder in the place it wasn't supposed to be and had it sent over to the machine shop to check for cracks and such. So, hopefully there's nothing major wrong with it - but if so, just trying to figure out my options.

you're probably fine, these heads are pretty tough actually. I blew my head gasket and had coolant in 2 cylinders, and the head was fine, no cracks and perfectly flat. I had them fly cut just a little anyways to make the surface better, and I had the valve stem seals replaced. Yes I do have a different cylinder head because I have 16 valves, but the 8valve heads are just as tough, in fact tougher in certain instances.

If you just want a basic rebuild, call around and find a local place. These cylinder heads are nothing special, anyone can rebuild them. I was able to get the head from my n/a rebuilt for $120 locally, i supplied the parts. I sent my 951 head off to LR because i had o-ring grooves cut.
