Post thermostat gasket

Well, after spending close to seven hours on Friday trying to remove the thermostat, I finally bought a pair of angled pliers and was able to remove it in about fifteen minutes on Sunday. Anyways the gasket that Napa had sold me and that I had in the car was a thick, rubber tube like gasket but the gasket that I originally had was a thin paper like gasket. Is the thicker gasket for the 951 waterpump?

Someone earlier must have replaced your thermostat with the incorret gasket. The correct gasket is the one you have, a rubber one that wraps around both sides of the thermostat. Depending upon the version of water-pump, you should also have a thick spacer ring as well.
