Post relay connections

Can anyone tell me how (and if) the relay carrier can be removed from the relay/fuse tray?
Also, are the wires soldered into to relay carrier, or are there tabs that slip onto a post?
thanks

Well, they can be taken apart though I don't know anyone in their right mind that would want to mess with that snake pit of wiring and take it all apart. What are you trying to do?

The wires are not soldered, just crimped to the terminal and inserted into the plastic shell. A tang on the terminal catches the shell and holds it in place just like other standard relay socket.

the headlight motors work, as do all the other lights, except the headlights themselves don't illuminate. Worked when i jiggled the relay just right, so replaced the relay, but that didn't help, so it looks like there is a loose wire. So i thought i'd take apart the relay carrier and clean the contacts, and reconnect the wires after.
Just didn't want to break or ruin it.

Which relay did you wiggle around? The headlights themselves do NOT have a relay as strange as that may seem. The fogs do, though.

And what wattage bulbs are you running in the headlights? If you are going overwatt with the stock wiring you may have burned out some wires or the switch contact points.

Relay G17 & 18, which is called the motor control unit, and on the electrical diagrams controls a lot more than just the headlight beams. And it seems like the G18 section (the wires are bundled with a marked wrapper) is the culprit.
Running stock lights, as far as i know.

Which model do you have? I have the '88 wiring diagram in my hands and G17 is an AC relay and G18 is for the alarm system. The car is down in a warehouse so I can't see what is labled on the fuse/relay cover.

Well, then I can't help you. I don't have the factory manuals up to that late date. Sorry.

My strange headlight problem was due to a loose (corroded) chassis ground behind the headlight bucket. check your grounds. my .02

IceShark:
very much appreciate your help and certainly respect your knowledge. I'd be happy to forward the electronic manuals to you if you can tell me what size files your email will accept. They're pretty large, but can be broken down.

Chris:
i looked at that, but didn't see anything, and given the intermittent correction with jiggling the relay, suspect that location. thanks.
