I am removing the seats today to have them recovered.

Under the front seats I found (naturally) a lot of vacuum escaping trash, a couple of old business cards, an ant trap (?), a floppy diskette, a smattering of loose change, and...an old corroded Deutsche Mark! Here it is, after a good dousing with wheel cleaner to remove years of crud.

My car was originally purchased in 1986 by an American serviceman living in Germany. It lived in Germany for a couple of years before being shipped back to the United States. This coin must have been dropped sometime around 1986.

I'll take it as a lucky sign. The coin is going back in the car.

See if that coin will fit the shifter **** in place of the plastic shift pattern cap!

All I ever found under my seats were antique McDonalds fries.

Yes, I agree with Perry. Supposedly, Germans put the coin under the seat for good luck. Anyone have more info. on this practice?

no need to leave it under the seat.

You wouldn't believe this... but a few summers ago, I flew to Germany, to drive thru europe and visit my Hungarian family. First thing at Frankfurt a.m. was buy a pop, and get change. A 5 DM coin. Put it in my wallet. Got the rental car, drove around for a month, put "I think", 5000km on it. Much of it in excess of 190kph. Not all of it on the 'bahn! That same coin was still in my wallet when I got on the plane back home. Never spent it.

Last November, I drove up to Whistler, and stopped at Creekside for dinner w. my g/f at Boston Pizza. Waitress was nice. Decided to tip her nice. Gave her ALL the change in my wallet. (unbeknownst to me, that included the 5 DM - DOH!)

Next day, I spun my 951 and clipped a curb. Bent back the rad frame, chewed up a couple water pipes. Limped home, got out my wallet, and realised I had dumped my DM on the waitress. ****.

First order of business was to replace the DM. THEN, I fixed everything else. Car runs fine now.

The only thing I've found in my car was a really old Canadian Tire Money bill. It had oil spritzed all over it.

Just a piece of advice: Never leave anything in your car. Not a dime, penny, and especially not a DM, somewhere like the cassette box or glovebox.

A thief will look in all the obvious storage spaces in your car: doorsills, console, ashtray, glove.

I always leave the Glove, ashtray, and casssete lid open and in full view, when I leave the car for the night. When the car was broken into, that's how I found it. If a thief sees you've taken the time to show there's nothing there, he won't waste time trying to brake in to look. Also, I'm getting the Broadfoot quickrelease steering wheel hub along with the 968 CS wheel. try stealing it now, punk!

The things I pulled from my '84 shark were downright wierd. Doing a stereo install, I found a set of five "tobacco risk" trading cards stuffed inside the center consol behind the climate control. These glossy, baseball-card-like things had stomach-churning depictions of mouth, throat and lung cancers on one side, and descriptions of the tobacco products to blame on the other. Now, I kinda wish I'd kept them just for the novelty.

From under the driver's seat came some very ugly and abused sunglasses, and half of an unused firecracker! It looked like someone had just ripped it in half (leaving about 4') and tossed it under the seat!

The DM sounds like a much better deal, very cool

All I found was a lousy bank-giveaway ballpoint, but it did come from the town that the PO supposedly lived in, sort of a provenance, I suppose...

All I found was a machine-gun, I'm not exactly sure what kind it is but it's about 2" long and plastic. Maybe an M-16, it's going back under the seat along with a quarter I found. Ya know, just incase I need it!

Not a Porsche, but I found a vintage box of Trojans on top of the heater box in my 67 Shelby GT500. I tracked down the previous owner who laughed and said he probably put them there to hide them from his mom.

The US spec '85 944 that I just bought came with $6.50 in quarters in the ash tray. Better than ashes!!
