the bumper and header on my 951s was resprayed some time in its 20 year life. it was sprayed on the car.

when the adjuster for the kamikze civic that hit the nose came to estimate the diminution in value he said the car was in a previous front end accident because there was overspray on the core support/frame.

had the bumper been removed and painted properly i would not be in small claims court.

Sounds like the moral of the story is to have the parts painted off the car.

But, seeing how I'm almost positive my S2 has been resprayed at some point in its life (there appear to be some tape lines on the lips of the hood), maybe it doesn't matter.

It matters. You can't properly prep/paint the bumper while it is on the car, period. If you choose to do it w/o disassembly, thats fine but the job will be compromised. Imo, not worth the savings(<$100) and I would turn the job down if asked to do it this way, especially on a pcar.

This is why dv is so hard to win on older cars. Why is the value diminished by this collision when it wasn't when you purchased the car w/ a previous repair? Btw, I am just curious how you will argue this in court. If anybody can wear down the other side its you.Good luck.

...I don't know that the shop I'll likely take it to (the folks who would have fixed my '85 had there not been frame damage) probably would also balk at not taking the panels off first.

Listen to burma, its his business...have all parts taken off the car and refinished that way. No tape lines, no overspray.
