Post driving your Porsche in salted roads this winter?

I'm just wondering how many of you follow the "my car has never seen winter" or "I drive it in salt and love it" . I'm in the midwest and cars don't seem to last to long out here...(some people seem to think so though) and it gets the car all frosty white... I do wash my daily driver around once a week in the winter but the porsche stays in the heated garage untill late spring. Just curious.....

I usually made an effort to try and keep it out of the snow, in part because I just didn't want to get it all nasty, but also because it just doesn't really go anywhere in the snow. But now that I have a garage, I find that it's a lot easier to keep the car clean, which makes me less likely to take it out when it'll get dirty. Plus, with it's new paint, well... I'm avoiding the snow as best I can. Hell, it's been driven about a half dozen times since the start of December... Friggin's crud on the roads...

I try to exercise her once a week at minimum, but lately, that's been tough...

Since it's my toy, and I don't have to bring it out in this nasty soup, I don't. Goodness knows my pickup truck is suffering enough from this slurry on the roads,,they've used enough salt this year to cure every ham in the country,,and there's not been that much snow. The weather man has said that Sunday it will be mid fifties, and if it's dry, I'm bringin' her out for a romp !! <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

Well, UNfortunately, I have to drive mine every day. I've got a wife, 2 kids, and a mortgage - so I'm just lucky to have the 944. But, my 944 happens to be a rather neglected example - so I'm not doing much harm by driving it in the salt. My dream is to someday own a 951 that I CAN leave in the garage during the winter months. On the other hand, it is a blast to arrive at my business on a snowy day and perform donuts in the back lot before other people arrive!

I'm lucky enough to be a car salesperson and usually have access to cheap wholesale turds such as this years 90 Subaru Legacy, so I don't drive my 944 in the snow anymore. That hasn't always been the case. I remember the first time I drove my first Porsche, a 924, in the snow. It had 185 tires that I had inflated to 35 psi for max response. Combined with the near perfect weight balance made for a terrifying ride. I stopped along the road and deflated the tires to 25 psi which helped. Recently, on this list some jackbag with a 924 was berating other drivers who drive their cars in the winter salt. My opinion is that if Porsche hadn't expected these cars to be driven in the winter they wouldn't galvanize the body panels and provided a ten year rust through warranty. Not all of us can afford the luxury of a garage queen.

I guess we'll see sunday if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow!

I hope it doesn't 'cause I'm planning to get the p-car on the road mid-march!

I'm fortunate that I can afford to let my 951 stay garaged over the winter, and a nice new garage to keep it in. This wasn't always the case, but I simply waited until I could before making a purchase. These are special cars, and in my opinion deserve special treatment.

Unfortunately, since I live in the "snow belt", I don't drive the p-car in winter. Galvanized or not, road salts and other chemicals will accelerate the deterioration of just about everything on and in the car.

I like to think I'm preserving a bit of history... after all there will never be another 924/944/968 coming off the assembly line.

These cars are a blast to drive, but why use them up for daily commuting when a common Honda, Toyota or Chevy is perfectly suited?

Just my two cents.

Ha, you should see my car. Hasn't been washed in awhile. I'll have to take a picture sometime to show you how it looks.

I'll probably be burned at the stake, but I could really care less.

Drive mine every day come rain, snow, or shine. It doesn't snow very often where I am in the UK, but the roads are salted most nights at this time of year. I just make sure the paintwork gets a good coat of wax before winter starts and the underneath gets a hose down whenever I wash it (once a week generally).

Both cars still looks amazing and I got rid of my daily driver (well it was stolen) because I was always wishing I was in the Porsche.

I drive mine on a daily basis. the road salt usaually does not build up that bad because it has been snowing almost on a dialy basis. If the weather report says it is not going to snow for a couple of days then I go ahead and wash it.

Mine has kinda become my winter car. I've got other toys for summer. The salt kinda blasts the paint on the bottom, but this thing will drive through just about anything. I need to do some paint work on it this summer anyway and I have a new hood coming. So I'm not real concerned, but I do keep it in a heated garage and wash it a couple times a week. Besides the exhaust rolling off the tip of the spoiler looks cool when it's two degrees outside.

Here in Kentucky we've had a harsher winter than normal, and my car sits covered in the garage as it is not my daily driver. Usually during the winter I try to get it out at least once a week for a toss, but it has been almost 3 weeks since I last drove, or even started, the car. Supposed to be nice later today, so I'm looking forward to firing the car up...
