Sorry guys, my fault - I genuinely don't get why the TPS may be to blame... and I am pretty new here so I'm probably missing something. Did read it up on clarks and it does say that the TPS can cause all sorts of issues (but not the engine dying one)...

TPS is easy enough to check with a voltmeter so you might as well do it for peace of mind. My money still rests on the DME relay, or the reference sensor.

Here's hoping it's as simple as the DME relay.

In my case it was cracked solder joints on the DME board. The fix is fairly straightforward, here's a link to my write-up. Several people have solved similar issues with this solution, hope it helps!

Thanks Greg, lets hope it doesn't get to this. I've replaced the relay, made sure the sensor is connected well and tested the TPS. Now only time will tell whether I need to start soldering the DME... (check this thread in a couple of weeks... on not)

OK, ends up it was simple overboost... the hose clamp on the intercooler out tube had come loose and some of the air escaped...
