Post Worst "wife hates my Porsche" story

Ok, just got this idea from a post on the 911 board.

Whose wife/girlfriend/significant other has reacted badly to the purchase of a Porsche in your family. How'd it go? How did it end?

I'll start.

About 7 years ago or so, my wife and I were having some problems and were in counseling. I had been lusting after a 1985 Euro 928 S and we had several arguments over this. She said "no way...we can't afford it!" (at the time she was, unfortunately right. But you know the ol' heart over head story).

I decided to buy it. Now this car had been sitting for quite some time and had a pretty weak battery. Well, I went to pick the car up from the seller right before one of our counseling sessions. I ran home, already late, to pick something up. Came outside to start my new 928 and...RRrrrrrrrr...battery dies. I get a neighbor to jump-start and end up being REALLY late. Talk about my wife being pissed off! It gets worse.

After having it out in our session, we go outside to get into our respective cars. She won't even look at it she's so angry. I get in and...you guessed it...the battery gave up the ghost. I had to quickly flag my wife down in the parking lot and ask her to jump start the 928. Pissed off? Woo!

Now I have my 951 and we're very happy together. She even tolerates me babbling about my car and about Porsches in general. I can't wait to get another 928 in addition to the 951. Hopefully she takes it better this time...

Mine is actually a good story.

86 944 n/a. Wife VERY supportive/understanding. Two weeks ago she even helped me hurridly rearange the cars in the driveway and the crap in the garage so I could put the newly aquired 944 in to keep her safe, warm and dry.

Then tonight I blew it. 1st thing I said to her when I came home was not "Hi honey, how are you?" it was "Hey I'm going to rearange the cars to put the Porsche in the garage" Oops.

My Porsches have had nothing to do with my marital problems... I am afraid I get to take full credit for that! lol And actually, for owning three of em, you'd think I'd have heard *something* about it... I guess that means either my exwife and her replacement have been VERY understanding about it, or else I am so horrible that the Porsches pale in comparison. Go figure.

It has been made VERY clear to me that our next car will be a silver Jaguar XJ6 for her, tho. If I fail on that one, I have a feeling I will definitely see a declining tolerance for my Porsche habit.

Regards, ...Scott

I knew I'd made a good choice (in wife) many years ago when we had this conversation a little while ago...

Me: Maybe we should get you a newer minivan... leather seats, cd, low miles.

Her: Well, let's see. We need to remodel the kitchen. Then, you need a faster Porsche. Then, we need to repair the fence...

I had a hard time containing myself. Soon as I get the kitchen done I will be in the hunt for a faster 944/968 variant. Don't get me wrong. I love my trusty 158hp steed. Just get tired of pointing other cars by on that long front straight at Road America.

Did I mention how I came home with my current car unannounced? Long story short, I still have the car and the wife. I think I'll keep her (wife that is).

It's easier to get forgiven than to get permission <img src="graemlins/r.gif" border="0" alt="[king]" />

And it helps to know how to back peddle while sucking up big time. I can do both and chew gum. Helps alot in a marriage, eh?

so ah... what happened between this:

"I had to quickly flag my wife down in the parking lot and ask her to jump start the 928. Pissed off? Woo! "

... and this:

"Now I have my 951 and we're very happy together."

I think we're being cheated out of a real story here!

While we don't have much of a choice in the car we drive... (1. Porsche, 2. only a couple of models, 3. only a couple of colors), we do have an infinitely larger number of chics to choose from

This is exactly where I'm at the moment. We need a new kitchen ($10.000++) and I want to upgrade to a 951 ($7.000). Wifey says I can have the money for the P if she can have the money for the kitchen. Let's see what my bank has to say about this :-)

Eivind - $10,000? you wish you could keep it down that low. My wife just spent $2,000 on a f-ing refrigerator. What the hell justifies that screwball price? A piece of scrap stainless left over from John Delorean's factory glued on the front of it? The other day I let the door swing all the way open and nudge into a cabinet, you should have seen her - she ran like Carl f-ing Lewis to catch that piece of sht. Now she knows why we don't use Snapon screwdrivers for grout cleaners.

I am definatly in the 'Good Wife' group. When we got married, over 20 years ago, I told my wife that when I was 40 I was having a Porsche or a mistress...her choice. Well, when I hit 40 the timing wasnt right, now at 44 I'm on my 2nd. She has always been very supportive of my hobbies, bicycle racing, cars, M-Cycles. I dont drink or chase around with the guys and treat her right so she treats me right. A few Years ago I was looking at a GT full suspension mountain bike and really liked it. She's in the store talking me into buying it. The guys in the store were all standing there jaws wide open. Yep...She's a keeper.

Mine is definetly in the good category. When we finish our home improvement project and I finish up the last few bits I want to do on the 944, she wants me to start looking for a '73 911RS clone. She likes those a lot (she [and myself] wants a white one with red Fuchs, red interior and red RS graphics) and says that we should have two Porsches.

Makes me wonder what she wants from me <img src="graemlins/oops.gif" border="0" alt="[oops]" /> ....
