Eivind, You have a much better chance of finding a exc. cond. 951 for $7000 than you do of meeting that kitchen budget! In the past year I've put ~$18,000 into my tiny (125 sq ft) kitchen and that's with doing ALL of the labor myself (OK, I did have the counters made by a pro and used stock cabinets, but I installed 'em) and we already had the new stove.

To keep the woman happy about my 89 951 I had to get her a 88 951 with 89 engine and turbo(lighter than my 89 with just as much power...no ABS, LSD, w/koni sports). It serves a double purpose since I want her to support future track events by including her in it with her own car. Too bad it since shes had the car from 2 years ago the car had 2 bent 17" 993 wheel(curb and runninng on a flat), 275/40/17 Michelin XGTZ flat tire, one dented front left fender, one right fender bent on the lip from playing "Dukes of Hazard" suspected airborn activity, grinding second gear from synchro grinding, cracked foglight lens, and currently fixing a blowing head gasket (blown in both the 2nd and 4th cylinder at the same time), pan gasket(major pain in the rear). Maybe not all Cuban women have the same temperament, but I don't recommend cutting this one off on the highway. But the moral of the story is: I don't have any problems playing with my cars...all I have to say is, do you want me to fix your car or do you want to take it to the dealer and pay for it?

Remember, I live in Norway. I have to add the $13.000 I should get for my NA to the $7.000 to get a 951. $20.000 will buy me a nice '86 951.
Regarding the kitchen; $10.000 does not include stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher etc.

I'm still $130.000 and 13 years away from owning my house. Add a couple of years for the 951 and the new kitchen

If I had a wife that hated my 951, she'd be out the front door. Luckily, my girl-friend (of 3 yrs) loves my 951 which is huge plus for her towards getting a diamond. But she was complaining how hard it was to shut the door so I had to clean all the gook out of the door-stops and fix it so the door handle is easy to sqeeze. It only took me a year to finally to do it.

My purchase happened 10 years ago. We had just bought our house and just finished moving in. I used to drive a toyota corolla as a daily driver. I was helping my wife clear the kitchen and she kindly whispers "What's that Toyota" still doing out there? "I thought there would be a Porsche out there by now". It didn't take me long to figure out what she was saying. I bought a 87 turbo a few weeks later. After I wrecked my first car, She was totally supportive in purchasing a 88 turbo S. Now she's hinting her car is too big and wants a two seater. To top that, Saturdays are reserved for my Porsche car day with friends.

This may seem kind of offensive, so I apologize about that.

I got my car right before I started dating this little J.A. princess. She lived next door which should have been enough to make me think better of it, since you should never date neighbors or swim in the company pool (oh wait, my fiance is a co-worker).

Anyway, one of the first times we went out in my car she gets on me about how she what never own a German car. Oi vey, what was I getting myself into.

She also got on me all the time about what a shyte winter car my car is (which based on my recent spin I am beginning to wonder) and how here SUV was so much better in the snow, even though it was only two wheel drive. Jeez, she didn't even know her Rav 4 was 4 wheel drive.

We lasted a little less that a year before the browbeating and hen pecking drove me nuts.

Finally, an on-topic post... I was beginning to feel wretched here, as everyone else is posting how great their wives are...

Um... not that I am complaining (Lisa, ya aren't reading this, right?) about my gal! <looks both ways... whew!>

Regards, ...Scott

Red face

My wife doesn't hate the car. She just hates that I"ve spent so much money on it!! So one evening as I'm dickering with something else that happened to the money pit, she comes out and asks,"Why are you so obsessed with that car?"
My reflex response was," It's shaped like a beautiful woman and it's almost as fun to ride"!
She dislikes it even more now, but at least she understands...

Jeez, you don't have to rub it in. It took a year because she is actually kind of a fun person. Other than the fact that she ragged on me for owning a german car, ragged on Christians, took great joy in the fact that her homosexual uncle has a homosexual friend who is a Catholic priest, and she would lash out if you ever said even a single word about jews she was a lot of laughs and great fun to be around.

Actually it was kind of complicated. Like I said before, you shouldn't date your neighbors because once you start and things go wrong you still have to live next door to them. What's worse, we lived in a side by side double. So as a result I tried to make things work, but between her nasty attitude and my moodiness it was doomed to fail.

If this counts, I have an ex wife and ex girlfriend that hate it.

The ex wife hates that I enjoy it so.

The ex girlfriend was told that it's funny what I can afford without her around.

Good topic.

I have a before, during and after (well almost after) story.

At first my girlfriend thought I was kidding when I said I wanted a Porsche. We went to look at a couple of S2's, which I'd decided would be the best 944 to own at first. The first in a rich suburb with city views, the second was at another very big house in a posh part of a neighbourhood. We viewed the car inside a carport(? or showroom) with polished wooden floors, full sized billiard table and nice collectable classic Ferrari. After leaving the house my girlfriend said, "Once you can afford a house like that you can afford a Porsche." A few weeks later I bought an 85 944.

Months passed and small problems came and went, with the occasional "I told you so" thrown in for good measure. Overall, I didn't hear much because I payed all the bills on it.

After a year I started hearing her friends (who I see as little as possible) start to ask me how the car was going. My girlfriend started jumping forward every time and mention that the car hasn't been much trouble lately. You see, she'd already told everyone, behind my back, that the car was always being fixed and was never running perfectly. So when I started seeing her friends a bit more she had to try to stop them from telling me how much they'd already heard about it. It took me a while to work that out, but it didn't bother me.

Then we bought a house together, and our budget got tight. I decided to investigate owning a cheap car again and selling the Porsche, and noticed I could be saving a lot of money. I worked towards selling the car until she said one thing, "It will be a shame to let the Porsche go." After that I halted all plans to sell and reworked my repayments and insurance to save money. The fact I couldn't stand driving a cheap boring car again had nothing to do with it of course. I still have the car.

Lastly, I got her back for her early remarks just last week. We were in my home city for Christmas and we were sitting in my mum's new house on her boyfriends Moran couch suite with full leather, reclining seats and adjustable leg rests on all chairs (worth about Aus$10,000). My girlfriend was noting how nice they were and finally said she wanted this couch. My reply "When we can afford a house like this, we can afford this couch". She laughed as she remembered too well, when she had said that same thing to me.

I have an ex girlfriend that hates my 951... first time she's in it, we're off to Vegas... she falls asleep on the road, and I decided to see what a Porsche can do (since this was the first Porsche I'd ever driven / owned / etc.). So, she comes around and looks at the speedo to see me cruising around 140. "Lets see how fast it can go", I say... so I take it from cruising to around 155 when she says "Ok, slow down". "Why?" I say. "Seriously, slow down, I don't want to go this fast." Long story short, the real reason she hated my 951 was because it was way faster than the new mustang GT she bought... espicially because she had to work at Hooters to pay it off.

My ex-wife liked the P-car when I first brought it home... actually it's more than that, she was the one who put the money aside and sent me after the car (which I didn't have too much interest in)... then I started paying too much attention to the car... she finally ended up rather fed up with it, and never even drove it! Complete flip-flop, though she still likes P-cars. Of course my current g-friend likes them even better, wants her own 951 (and knows what it is)...
