Ah, missed that.

5w-50 is not easily found in the US, not that I would use it if it were available.

Mobil 1 SAE 5w-50 is on there. I don't think I saw any other 50 weights though.

I have heard that the Mobil 1's are typically thinner than the typical oils at the same weight. Not sure if that's conjecture or if there are spec sheets to back that up.

"Bob The Oil Guy" seams to be a big fan of Schaeffer's oil.

You guys should really be asking your oil questions here:

EDIT - found this in another forum discussing ZDDP:

ZDDP is a cheap antiwear additive used to save parts from an inferior base stock. A good oil can be low ZDDP an dlow SAPS and still perform well in service (not for break-in, though).... You're right, Rotella and all "diesel" oils have gone to low ZDDP for EPA07 diesel needs. That's the API CJ4 stuff.

hmm I have 260,000 kms on my engine now.

I was running 15w50 mobil one, 5w50 quaker synthetic. and now 5w50 castrol synthec. I just basicly get cheapest synthetic on sale. and I like to use a KN oil filter which is probably a waste of money (like 13 bucks).

I think as long as you use a decent quality oil with the proper weight it doesn't really matter what oil you use. I highly doubt an engine will last significantly longer than another engine because of brand of oil.

I wonder how much life I took out of my motor when I ran it for about 5 minutes with zero oil pressure...... (didnt' realize I had no oil pressure and let it idle in my garage for like 5 minutes I think). It's been running fine since this happened a month ago.

That's an amazingly simplistic view - typical of the type of "advice" that seems to be popular. Although there were some good points about inspecting your oil and filter.

I've been using Brad Penn 20w-50 in my 951. It's part synthetic but from what I've read/heard - they really have high quality stuff.
