Question WTB - Rear valence hardware.

Got a late 944 I am installing a turbo rear valence on, all holes are cleaned/cut and ready to install, but I don't have the hardware. Chuck @ Paragon has been doing his best to source them for me, but haven't heard back any news for at least a week.

As I recall, there should be studs in the valance on the outer ends (molded in as part of valance) and nuts & bolts used where it bolts next to exhaust (on later cars I believed captured nuts are already in place). I don't remember the thread size but it was common metric size.

Right, there are some studs on the valence, and those are the holes I had to place in the car - got that handled.

What I need are the bolts that hang through the "t-slots" in the chassis. They are a standard M6 thread, but the bolt itself is a non-standard design.

The bolts are pretty common - stainless steel socket cap-head screws (Allen head). What I don't recall is the length - they're pretty short. I'd guess around 20mm - McMaster part number 92290A326 ($11.70/pk of 25, M6x1.0, 20mm long, 316 stainless steel). You'll need a small diameter washer too - try McMaster part number 90965A170.

Around here, we have what we affectionally call "The Magic Bolt Store". Give them a bolt, ANY bolt, and they can match it. They're cheap too. You probably have one near you that can hook you up with what you need.

Are the captured nuts already in the slots on the car? Those are the ones that aren't easily found. I think 944online and Pelican have them.

Bump, anyone in the process of, or recently parted a 951?

EDIT, Curt - you and I must have hit the post quick reply button at the same time......

Yes, the hanging bolts are the ones I don't have - I have freshly plated hardware coming out of my ears for everything else - it's those special "t bolts" that I need. I figure SOMEONE has them laying around here from parting a 951 or something. Paragon has been working on it, but I figured I throw it on RL as well to increase my chances of getting them soon.

There are no special T-bolts - just a nut captured in a cage that slip into the slots on the car. At least that's the way it was on the '86 parts car and my '87. I used the ones from the parts car to replace the ones on my '87 because the cage had rusted away on mine.

I just checked 944online and they show the hardware kit with their spoiler. I don't see it listed separately though. Might be worth it to give them a call to see if they'll sell you a hardware kit separately.

I haven't found them on Pelican yet.

Ohhhhhh, ok - yeah, Chuck @ Paragon has been working to get them, but supposedly they have to come from Germany. Even if I could just fine one of these things, I could reverse engineer and have a machine here at work spit out a couple thousand.......

All you need are the captive nuts to go in the square holes underneath (5 total). You can order them from Porsche for a buck-something each. A lot for a nut... but for $7 total, it's not too bad.

The rest of the hardware is just nuts and washers.

Got the hardware in the mail yesterday - now, what is the proper orientation and installation for those captive nuts. I have never owned a 951, so I have never seen them installed......

You can kind of "tilt" them in... the nut part goes inside the car.
