OK, so the planetary analogy was a bit over the top, I'll agree, but at the risk of being redundant, my curiosity won't let me leave this alone.
(Appologies to Perry for the OT)

When you guys get the oportunity, present this equation to your physics teacher, and ask him to explain how while spinning a glass of water on a tray attached to an axis by wire (same as ball & string analogy), in a vertical circle (over your head) the force (centrifugal) CAN be measured, and attempts to replace the value for the "imaginary" force with -0- will result in the glass and water to fall or spill.

Fc = {0.40 (kg) * {5.0 (m/s)}2}/ 0.8 (m) = 12.5 (N)

"The imaginary force can be explained like this, the ball believes there is a force"

LOL, ***** are pretty smart......

Cheers all.

What keeps the water in the glass is the fact that the glass is having a centripetal force inward applied to it...which keeps it moving in a circular path. The water doesn't just fall out because the direction of motion is constantly being changed...so the water is constantly being "caught" and redirected while inside the glass. The water in the glass wants to keep moving with tangential velocity, but the glass traps it and keeps it moving circular. So, the water stays in the glass.

I'll ask my physics teacher today and I'm pretty sure he'll give an explanation much like the one that I just gave.

I think there is a force that you COULD label centrifugal if you do a vector analysis..but it is not a fundemental force of spinning in a circle. There's a lot of this we CAN do

I have an old kyosho inferno 10 with a TOP Ctr engine....haven't used it in the longest time. That puppy would haul with the 1hp engine.
