Default Dash gauges going crazy

I've just gotten my 944/1 back to roadworthy status after sitting for 6 - 7 yrs (at the PO's). Everything is going great except for the dash gauges. The temp gauge jumps to full hot sporadically; the gas gauge goes to empty then back to correct; the tach won't work until the engine gets to about 150 deg. (It doesn't pulse during cranking, so I was thinking it was the speed sensor, but it isn't).

My first thought is there is a bad ground, but all these things happen independently. It's rare that all the gauges are working at once. Is there anything else that could cause this kind of madness?

Also, do the fuse panels drop down somehow? The main box appears to have a pivot or locking peg, but I hate to try unless I know it's supposed to come down. Quite the rat's nest there!

try disconnecting the gauge unit and use some wd40 on contacts. I had jumpy needles on one car too and wd with a little 1200 sand paper helped..

Pictures of the fuse pane? Did you check the connectors to the dash?

I haven't pulled the dash out yet, I have been going through the grounds. I found a thread on early 944 dash grounds, the excellent one with pics, but they must be behind the dash. The DME and fuses block access to everythig from underneath, so pulling the dash is next. I was just hoping there was some way to avoid it.
