Post Anyone drive on the street with hawk Blue racing pads

I had ordered a set of street pads that are OK for occassional track use, but received the blue 9012 racing pads. It will be a 2 hour drive to and from the track. I am concerned about driving to the track and home with these. I may even slide them on a few days before. Has anyone ever done this and had any problems.

Blues will chew up your rotors in short order on the street. In addition, you'll have limited stopping ability, you'll never get them hot enough to get you full stopping power on the street.

That said; I've done the exact same thing. Driven them to and from track events, with no noticable 'extra' wear.
You can get away with it, but definately not recommended!

Why will they chew up my rotors on the street a day or two? I can understand them possibly not having the greatest stopping ability on the street because they will need to be HOT.

You should be fine with them. I drove to/from VIR with Hawk Blues already installed and had no problems. They don't have the full bite when cold, but I never felt like they were inadequate for safe driving. Porsche brakes with cold Blues are probably still better than 90% of the other cars on the street.

But why even both when swapping out pads in our cars could be done by a blind monkey in just a few min longer than it takes to jack up the car?

Having a 2nd set of pads with these brembo calipers really is no big deal, and it is not like the brake pads will take up too much room in the car.

Race pads will chew up rotors, and they don't stop well cold, so why take chances?

I know Ian. If I didn't have to drive over 2 hours in the early morning I would just pop them in when i get there. Last time i drove to Limerock I pulled in with 8 minutes left for tech inspection. If I had an extra body to do the other side at the same time it would go quick. You wouldn't happen to be in Limerock Connecticut July 11th would you. How about Louden New Hampshire July 15 & 16?
