Never bought from the man. As far as the usefulness of the item (it looks good, doesn't it?) some folks swear by it, others at it. What it does is change the throttle response and makes the pedal more sensitive to small changes in position. It doesn't add anything in the way of power, just changes pedal "feel". The original can (and often is) modified by machining.

Opinions from any others out there?

I think they ROCK!!! Now, I'm no rocket surgeon - but this thing is cooler than splitting atoms. You know why dinosaurs are extinct? Because they didn't have throttle cams! If I had to guess [which I don't, but I will], I'd say these things will eventually be made illegal or taxed heavily! [as most good things are]. The poor Porsche engineers started jumping head-first off their beer steins when they realized they missed the boat on this one!

Oh, you weren't asking me, were you

Just flip yours over, locate the place where the cable end wants to be and drill a hole there for the cable end. The take a hacksaw and gently cut through the edge to the hole so that you can insert the cable end. I don't remember if I had to also drill a new hole for the throttle 'tab', but this works and does not cost anything. You can put it back the other way anytime you want.

If anyone is interested I can photo mine and post.

I did this on my nephew's N/A, it works great and doesn't cost anything but some time. I didn't flip the original cam over though. I just rotated it approx 90 degrees clockwise and redrilled the holes like art described. It took about 20 minutes total.

Just do it. You won't regret it. It's the first upgrade I did on mine and it gives you the best bang for the buck. Mine was $35 if I recall.
No extra power - like the infamous Tornado - but it makes the car feel much more responsive.

The mod Art mentioned does work. I opted for a genuine throttle cam just for the look, but if you dont care about how it looks, do Art's mod. Also, eventhough you get the same throttle profile with the two cams, the genuine machined one has a better groove for the cable. The oem part has an inescure look to it (shallow v-shaped groove, versus the groove on den durrell's photo.

Deni, whats with the cheese knurled bolt on top???

The throttle cam replacement to me is the best cheap upgrade for the 944/924S. The main reason I like it is that takeoff from first gear is much much easier and especially much easier on hills when you're stopped. The pedal response is much nicer and quicker while driving. I've tried to think of one serious downside to this mod and haven't come up with one(people say gas mileage will suffer some but doesn't bother me). This is a no brainer just do it.

Oh yeah, I'd also reccomend an open air filter. You'll see throttle response like never before with a t-cam and an open filter. I just got a plain k&n and sawed the top of the airbox off (tastefully, no jagged edges and plastic bits everywhere). I'm actually pleased with the results. Its a real nice combo. Oh yeah, and the noise is spectacular.

That sounds like Jerry rigging to me. If you dont know how to do it you may ruin your own stock cam. I bought one for 35 and I am happy. I will also still have my stock one in "perfect condition" so I can put it back the old way. I am sure some people think it is a waste of money to buy a new one when they can just modify the old but I am not that way, I would rather spend the money. Besides the blue looks so cool and dresses up the engine comp a bit. To each his own.
