Red face Hello Porsche owners!

I am new on rennlist,so I want to excuse my english first of all.I am from Romania(were nobody has gone before)and I have a 924S from 1987.I manage to resolve a lot of problems on my car and I dont have even now books or another sources of inspiration about 924-944 mecanics. My big problem now is a crack differencial.I find here in romania a 944S gearbox and I want to know if this one is a good replacement for me.Thanks.Gra

The 944S unit will work, but it will not be as good as the original 944/924S unit. The gear ratios are different on the 944S transmission.

Any 944/924S/944S/944S2/951 transmission will bolt up, but I suggest that you try to find a 944 or 924S unit. A 924 unit WILL NOT work.

the final drive ratio (r & p) on the 944S is the same as the 924S...the gear set (ratios) on the 944S is the same as the 951...closer gearing than the 924S or the early 944...

I don't think you have much choice in Romania and I don't think you will be unhappy with the 944S transaxle...go for it

I second that; the 944S gearbox has a bit shorter gearing than what you originally had in your car, but it's not too bad and you might even gain a bit in acceleration.

I am in the process of installing a 944s tranny in my 85.5 944.

Go ahead and use it, you'll never notice the slight difference in gear ratios.
Welcome to Rennlist. Don't worry about you English, the board is mostly American and our English isn't the best either , I work with quite a few Romanians, if anyone is ever going back for a visit maybe they can bring you parts.
