new member- good Porsche mechanics in north NJ?
Hi all
Just got my first Porsche - a 1990 S2 Cab. I am very much a novice. I am so glad to see this discussion forum, and hope to learn a lot from it.
Quick question - any recommendations for Porsche mechanics where I live - Essex county, NJ or nearby?
Thanks,
Arvind

Congrats on your purchase.
Northern NJ is full of many excellent independent mechanics. You can reference the NNJR PCA website for a list of reputable shops.
Also, feel free to email me offline for any recommendations.

Arvind:
Welcome! I have an '89 S2 couple. The S2 is a rare bird, but one that flies really well!
For servicing, I use PowerTech in Rockaway: www.pwr-tech.com. There are a dozen or so repulable Porsche mechanics that are involved with the Porsche Club in North NJ, including: Autohaus (Chatham), Protosport (Pompton Plains), EuroPerf (Garfield), Performance Plus (Oakland), and as I mentioned, PowerTech.
As Clem said: Your best investment: get in the PCA club! At $42 a year, it's fantastic! Autox, DE, Concours, Rally: they have a lot to offer.
There's a monthly meeting this Wednesday, at the Westin Hotel in Parsippany. (Check website for details). Topic: Women and performance driving.
Hope to see you there!

Thanks Clem and Z man for your suggestions - have already become a PCA member yesterday - awaiting their response (takes them upto 2 weeks to process according to their email!).
I guess i will try Paul Miller Porsche or Autohaus which are closest to where I live.

As the "Z" man said welcome. Might I also suggest PowerTech Bob Tzoncos jr. (sorry about the spelling Bob)is one of the mechanics, a fan of the 944 and the co-chair of the NNJR track tech commitee along with his dad. He just did a very nice job on my car prior to the Mid-Ohio track event. What ever shop you settle on make sure they're 944 friendly, some that will remain nameless still think that if the engine isn't in the back it's not really worthy of their full attention. Please attend this Wednesday's meeting at the Westin. Wether you've heard back from national or not we'd be glad to have you.

Dave: in conjunction with the Ladies day at Pocono, NNJR is trying to get move of the ladies in our club actively involved with the driving activities. So they are going to have some of the ladies in our club, like Marge Trautman, Marlys Thomson...et al. speak to address this topic. Yes, there are women drivers out there who can run circles around us...

Try Palumbo's Exxon in Millburn, next to the ShopRite. The owner and one of the mechanics race their own cars in PCA Club Racing, and they build the cars themselves. They've worked on my 944 and 968, and I've been happy with the results.
