It replaces the cat section of the exhaust, from the turbo down pipe to the rear section of the exhaust system and frees up flow(gets rid of the cat).

okay, I have a completely stock exhaust, with one of those cheap looking rectangular tips.

I want a good exhaust, from the downpipe back.

what is a good, affordable, exausht setup.

also, can i get away with no cat? I have an 86 951, and i think aircare allows me to not have one, as long as i can pass emmisions.

That's why I got my emissions done right before buying my test pipe. I'll worry about passing emissions again in 2005

3" testpipe and catback runs about $1200 from Speed Force Racing. I have that, plus the straight pipe, and love it.

I assume that a test pipe is a bolt in section, not weld in. So when it comes time to check emissions BS, you can bolt back up the cat?

Yep. My cat is in the attic. But, test pipe is for track use only (disclaimer.....), right everyone?

My S2s exhausts have a welded section that includes the collector (Y pipe) O2 sensor bung, and converter. This section could probably be flanged after the O2 sensor to allow the test pipe to be installed and removed. You can't just crawl under the car with a section of pipe and swap it for the cat.
