Question Gunk in cylinder water jacket

During a recent head removal ( no, not mine) I had removed the coolant drain plug in the block and went on to something else while it drained. When I lifted the head free a lot of coolant ran down the left side of the engine along with some oil still in the head. The drain hole had clogged and now there is a mix of coolant with dark oil floating on it in the water jacket surrounding the cylinders. I cleared the drain and most of the coolant and the oil that was floating on it came out. Cylinders 1, 2, and 3, still have some residual coolant and oil around their bases . I shoved some shop rags into these areas and am letting them wick out as much as possible.
What should I do next to make sure all the oil is gone ?

thanks,

Simple green or any solvent and a scrub brush down every passage you can access would seem to be indicated.

I used simple green on all of my balance shaft covers, etc and it works well.
