Post need suggestions on race seat installation

i am considering installing a set of (or maybe a single) racing seat to replace my tattered front seats of my 944S. i have considered recaro and sparco, but i don't want to break the bank and i also want to be able to get in and out of the car easily on a daily basis (this is my daily driver).

any suggestions on seats that work for both daily driver duties and auto-x/drivers-ed duties? what about seat rails and sliders? do you purchase those extra and is extra drilling required? what about seat belts? can i still use the stock belts or do these seats require harnesses?

thanks,

Buy factory sports seats. My brother has a Recaro racing seat and 5 pt harness in his 912E and it is rediculous to drive daily, or anywhere but the track.

YMMW, but I find my Recaro quite comfortable in daily traffic. It's the same item used in 968CS... I also have a set of 4pt belts but I'm not hardcore enough to put those on every time I drive the car

There's a picture of the set-up on my p-caronline profile page: <a href="http://www.p-caronline.com/directory/sami944s/" target="_blank">http://www.p-caronline.com/directory/sami944s/</a>

They're mounted to the original holes with sliders. I did have to drill the mounting brackets a bit...

In the archives (if they are available) are many discussions on this, and your choices. Remember that most regions require "same safety measures" for the driver and instructor... if you are still under instruction or plan to carry one. If you have 5 or 6 point harnesses and pass-through seating, so must the passenger - or, you both wear stock 3-pt.

Most seat companies make a dual purpose seat - obviously I'm biased toward Sparco - you'd be looking at the Milano or Torino (reclining/lifting back, low entry) - or, the Roadster (fixed back, low entry) - or, the Speed/Sprint (low cost, fixed back, high sides)

Not included, but relatively inexpensive. For most applications you'd need a base or side mounts and sliders.

Sometimes... have a look at these Tech-Sessions to see how Sparco Street and Competition seats are installed:

<a href="http://64.226.197.185/sparco/sparco_torino_install.htm" target="_blank">Sparco Street Seat in 911</a>

Well, you still need them Either can be used with any of the seats - sometimes the inboard seatbelt mount will need to be modified... there's some info in the above links about this.

Good Luck!

Joseph,

I just installed a Corbeau Forza seat and it's wonderfull! i purchased it from soloracer.com. The install was OK but the bracket holes needed a bit of roundng to make them fit just right. total cost $309, seat and bracket. The seat slides VERY easly and comes with a "booster" for us verticaly challanged people. My only complaint after driving with it to and from school every day (60+ miles per day) is the lack of lumbar support. Corbeau offers an inflatable lumbar support for $77, but you can just cut a piece of high density foam and use that. That's what I did. All in all, it's a great seat with little to complain about. If your looking for an FIA approved seat for a daily driver that won't break the bank, this is it!

<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" /> and good luck
