Default 544DRS back on the road!

I've gotta share this story!

I live about 20 miles east of PDX on the west end of the Columbia River Gorge. For those of you unfamiliar with Oregon geography, a large mountain range splits Oregon into "western" and "eastern." Eastern Oregon gets colder than Western Oregon, and during the winter, we often get strong winds ripping through the gorge. And, I live at about 600 feet above the river, on a hill.

Last month, we had weird weather, with temperature inversions and an accompanying East wind like I've never seen. The neighbor's wind meter broke after a 100+MPH gust. Winds were at a sustained 60 MPH for days. No kidding. Imagine a non-stop, week-long tropical storm, with no rain.

My house and garage were surrounded by 75-year-old Douglas Fir trees. The wind pulled several of these trees out by their roots. Three of them landed on my garage. Fortunately, my kids and I pushed my 944 from the garage (bad master/slave cylinder) and to safety. One of the trees had a large branch that penetrated the garage roof, impailing the oil slick that marks where I park my 944.

Since I had neither the facilities nor the time to repair the clutch, I had the car towed to the shop, and the clutch issues are no more. My car is running great, but I still have some issues that concern me, and now that I 'm driving my 944 again, I'd better sort the problems out. I'll raise those issues in separate threads, but I did want to share the story you've just read, because it was incredible! I'll post pictures when available.

When we're done with the ice, snow, rain, and all this other nonsense, we need a PDX gtg.

Absolutely! Especially once the gravel's gone from the Columbia River Highway!

Awesome Nick... glad to hear your car survived the carnage. We're just getting ready for track season again... hope to meet up with you in the future.
