Post Do 944s Have a Fuel Expansion Tank?

The factory manuals indicate a "fuel expansion tank" present in 944 cars built as of July 1983. The diagram shows an early car with an auxiliary "tank" fitted behind the right rear window, beneath the hatch pillar.

I'm having a sporadic fuel smell in my S2 cabrio when getting in the car after letting it sit overnight. It basically goes away at startup, so it's not leaking injectors.

I thought it was the emissions canister in the driver side fender, but after changing it out, the fuel smell keeps occurring now and then. I suspect either this expansion tank is saturated, or there is a loose hose clamp in the lines that supposedly connect it to the fuel tank and/or canister.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
