Maybe we should all start putting rubber washers between the brain and the car to absorb the vibrations?
Maybe it'll help from shaking the solders loose?

Brett,
Let me know how that works out for you. The new 944S has the same problem but it starts accelerating on it's own even after it hasn't been working but does stop at the set point. Pretty unnnerving habit in traffic on the drive back from LA last weekend.

No prob Steve...Do you mean it engages cruise control by itself after you have been using it but hit the brake?

Have you tried pulling the lever back to "Cancel" the last setting and see if it continues to do that?

It seems to me that if the lever works in any form, any problem past that should be in the computer since it would appear the servo is working....but what do I know

Here's how I would describe it. Turn cruise control on with stalk, set speed, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. If you don't turn it off manually, not just cancel by brake or coast it will come back on for no reason at all and accelerate back up to the set speed. This isn't a good thing when you are in traffic doing 40mph and it decides to come back on and go for 75 mph. I have at least 1 spare computer, maybe even 2 I can try. It does have an aftermarket steering wheel so maybe the contacts in the stalk are dirty or not contacting right.

Steve, are the brains different between years or did all years use the same brain?

The early cars up to 85.1 used controller #944 167 127 00; later cars at least through 90 used #944 617 132 00.

Ah, so if I have a bad one in the S2, the '85 brain won't work. Blast.

Sounds like a switch problem in the control stalk.

I had the same problem with CC and resoldering all the joints on the cruise control circuit board fixed it. If you are not experienced with soldering, a TV shop can do it for you for about $25. That's what I did and the guy said the solder joints looked fine, but when he touched them with the iron they bubbled.

He said that meant there was air in the joints.

Cruise control is still clunky when you use the brake to disengage it, so I try to remember to cancel it with the stalk.

Well I spent a good portion of the day resoldering as many points as I could and after reinstalling it, the cruise control works better, but still not great.

Now it will engage most of the time, but its quite the adventure when I do. Sometimes it speeds up then drops off, sometimes it will slowly decelerate then try to catch up only to slowly fall again.

I think resoldering helped and maybe I will call a couple TV places to see if they will re-flow the joints for me since I couldn't do them all and I'm not 100% sure the ones I did were done correct.

4th gear upshifts at 120 doesn't it? Why are you in fifth at 80-100?
