Post What's a good value in 6x9's for the back?

This is my set up (or should be after this weekend). Alpine head unit providing 19.5 watts RMSx4. Fronts are Polk EX series components (4" woofer, crossover, tweeter). I don't feel like messing with the rear 4x6's, which are shot. I don't have the money right now for subs and an amp. My plan was to put some 6x9's in the back in small boxes, and to run these off of the head unit. Obviously efficiency is important with the low power. I may actually build a crossover to remove the high's in the back to keep my staging forward. So, any advice on an efficient, inexpensive set of 6x9's that will provide some decent mid-bass? Polk has a nice set for $100, but I was hoping for something cheaper. Blaupunkt (sp?) has some for $60. Anyone have experience in this area? TIA

Hey, I'll be in the Boone area next week.. I'll hook ya up with a nice set-up... You really don't need to spend tons of $$.. JMO. Get the blau's.. nice speakers. I put 5x7's in the stock location. -Have 8's in the wells behind the wheels. -amp rack is in spare well... Spare is in hatch area w/5th rim all nice & shiny!..
I solved the issue of speaker-fitment by surface-mounting, and painting the grilles to match surrounding interior bits...

LeftLaneGUy,

Do you have any photos of your installed 5x7's in the doors? Did you have to enlarge the opening (interior panel or door metal)?

I was thinking about straight 4x6 replacements up front and a simple box enclosure with 6x9's in the hatch. Anyone done this by mounting the box(es) to the back of the rear seat? I believe it's plywood, and would make for an easy mounting location that could be returned to stock condition with no permanent visible damage.

THanks
Ron
