Trying to figure out if my 84 with paint code LM3A is a base coat with clear or just a 1 stage type paint. I also have a 87 S with the same paint code, will it have the same paint system? I have someone getting me some free paint and I'm not sure which to get. Also, I'm assuming India red and guards red are the same, are they?

LM3A is Guards red in 84. I have that on my 84' as well. It's a solid 1 coat paint no clear coat.
Regarding Indian red and Guard's red i think it's the same color. I had Indian red on my 924's , look just like the Guard red on the 944.
Maybee the term "Indian" red was Politically incorrect in US, and they changed it to avoid critics. LOL...

Indiscrot <spelling?) or Indian Red
and Guards Red are the same.
name as far as I know has never been changed for PC reasons,
think the term "Indian red" comes from the French Indian war of 1755, and has somthing to do with either a "commader Red" or the red of the guardsmen's uniform.
Hence why its also called "guards red" as the "guards" wore that colour

India Red and Guards Red are slightly different. India Red is slightly darker and has a maroon tint, India a touch lighter with an orange tint.
My car was origionally Indeschrodt, it is now Guards. There are also 3 different hue options on both paints, the codes being A, B, and C. They get progressivly darker, but is almost not noticeable.
I spent a lot of time trying to match my OEM paint with the Spies Hecker I used. Unless you really know paint and get very close, you can't tell. However, from 5 feet back it is a much more brilliant red than before.
