Default Newbie question - where are the motor mounts

Hi there,

Seems like I need to replace my motor mounts. The procedure sounds easy enough (based on clarks). Small problem though... not quite sure where they are!

Does any one have a photo at hand which shows where they are?

Thanks!
Alex

They attach to the crossmember. Do you have an N/A or turbo? If you have a turbo they will be pretty much impossible to see. NAs are a little easier.

On a related topic, I gather there is a big difference in quality between the various mounts that you can get.

Does anyone have any advise on what the best choice is overall? Would an OEM mount be good enough or is it worth giving double the money for a genuine one?

OEM and Genuine are the same thing.

The difference between the mounts is that OEM units are "hydraulic." They have a bladder of fluid inside. The aftermarket mounts are solid rubber.

Right now on my car I have aftermarket solid mounts. Just took the car on a 3k mile trip and have had no problems but some swear up and down that they won't last.

My own research before purchasing said otherwise but in the end it will be up to you.

I'd go with the ones that are around $100 each - not the ones that are $30 or so each. They are such a bitch to get to and change that for $150 bucks or so difference, it's not worth risking it, IMHO.

I have a 951 and PO said he changed them but I still get a fairly decent amount of shimmy at idle that smooths out if I goose it to about 1000-1200 RPM. I've never had a 951 before, nor have I sat it one that badly needed new mounts so I'm probably fine and just don't have a reference point.

That said, I'm changing my fuel lines now so I can see the bottom bolts of the mount on the passenger side but have no idea how to get a visual or otherwise on it to check on it. Is there any way to give a once over to see if it's in good shape?

The genuine Porsche mounts are the best. The other OEM ones wear out faster from what I hear.

Talking with a reputable vendor in my local area, they have sold around 500 pair of the solid units and have had to do warranty replacements on about half a dozen. Seems like OEM paranoia to me.
