Tips on opening the AFM
I posted about some hesitation problems not long ago. People had some very nice tips on adjusting the AFM for better contact. I'm unsure, though, about how to open the top. There is some sort of sealer on it now. Do I just take a razor around the seal? Will it pop right off? Also, does anyone have a recommended product to seal it with when I put it back together?
TIA
Dale.

There has got to be some other trick to this. I cut all around and under the lip of the cover with a razor, and I already broke part of it trying to pry it off, yet I still can't get even one edge of it to come loose.

Actually the secre to removing the cover to the air flow meter lies in the materials it is made from, They installed little magnetic rods to hold onto the cover so you have to have a tool that porsche has that has the right magnetivity and voila, the cover will come right off.

I used a razor blade knife for cutting shingles, has a nice little hook on it to get in a little deeper. If you cut all the silicone it will come off easily.

Dale ; just a little joisey humor, but if porsche could have forseen Der's post they probably would have had a special tool for that too. That original post was very interesting and goes to show you ,you learn something new every day on these cars, even after 20 yrs.

Mine came off easy, no razor blade cutting required.
Just an large size screw driver was needed, but then this was in full summer.
You might want to try the hair dryer to heat the mastic.
Re-seal with something absolutely free of chlorine, the goop used for windows is fine.
TakeCare
PS: If everything fails try the negative reversed pole magneto to fool the magnetic rods Christian has mentioned above.

My plastic cap was a bitch to remove! Heating helped (hair dryer). I made sure to remove as much original silicone as possible, THEN pryed the cap edges with a screw driver.
Getting it back on is a breeze though!
