richglickel,

that woody is my uncle's, he bought it when he was in high school. he's the guy in the white shirt, my father is in the green shirt. he is like 50 something now. its real fun to drive, esp with only 3 forward gears. I'm next in line to get the car if and when he lets it go. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Thanks guys! I think I may try picking up a spare sunroof and permanently mounting a rack of sorts to it. I don't see why it wouldn't work - it would take a hell of a lift to rip the sunroof off of the two metal runners that hold it to the car on the rear of the roof. Otherwise, I'll look into the tequipment rack that shaun gave the p/n for. Erick - wasting my money would consist of spending all of my money and not having anything to show for it...I can always sell my surfboard, porsche (its never going to happen though), entertainment system, etc. if I need money when I graduate, but I am on very good terms with two of my previous employers and I have two guaranteed jobs when I graduate, so I don't forsee having any trouble. I don't plan on blowing all of my money anyways...I may need some of it down the road, so I am going to sock some of it away...the dream of a 400+HP 951 will have to wait until then, but a nice 330HP 951 may be attainable in the near future.

Thumbs up

OK, the voice of wisdom here: you roll up in 944 with your board strapped to the top, and surfers will want to kick the crap out of you, since you have a giant sign that says, "POSER" on your forehead. It doesn't matter if you're actually good, or even if you're a local. Surfers just aren't down with that crap. My experience, is that surfers in general are a pretty closed community, judgemental, and short fused. Thus the renown for getting your *** kicked for being non-local. I have yet to meet a surfer in the line up who was friendly if they didn't know you. You need the right car for the right job: old station wagon, jeep, or the best- an old van. That way, you can change into your wetsuit out of the elements. Let your Porsche be a Porsche, not a pack horse.

PS: I wouldn't sell my windsurfing van for anyother car, I LOVE it, plus it keeps all that crap out of the house. I bought mine for less than $2000.

Cool

Ok my turn, I grew up in Virginia BEach, surfed all through jr. and Sr. high school. If you could get past teh POSER image that you gonna project pulling up in a Porsche you might not get your a$$ kicked. My first car and favorite beach cruiser was and is a 1965 Plymouth Valiant Cvt.
Had a 318 with a six pack. I only drove it to the beach and on dates.

Porsche for the highway and twisties not a pack horse.

I almost got my *** kicked at Huntington Beach in '81 for just hanging around -watching- the surfers. Very low tolerance arond there for punk rockers from Wisconsin, though you'd think the novelty would've won some points...

Ah, youth...

PS what is a 'spuns'?

Mmmmm i just want to say you that you just add a Rack on your car's roof this is the best for the hang surfboard and kayaks on your car and you can easily go with your family for a picnic and enjoy kayak riding and surfboard riding and also fishing but the most important thing is you should add roorack and this si nto a heavy cost but you can get on low rate second hand..
