I may get a chance to install a block heater (damn it). It was neg 2 this am. Started OK, but after 10 minute warm-up, I get 3 miles down the road and my engine temp spikes, also noted no heat. Turned back for home and noticed a trail of liquid spilled along my drive. Arg.
All 4 pcars are down now - embarrassing. If the truck quits, I guess I'm walking. Wierd too bc I put in new antifreeze over the summer. Its always something... Bruce
PS... I'm up for a freeze plug but it the antifreeze spoiled my clutch; that WILL **** me off.

Are you sure it's a freeze plug? There are countless places that might leak first. The plastic radiator drain plug would a be a weaker link as well as the plastic turbo blockoff plate for the water pump.

Steve...Yea, I know. I haven't had a chance to look yet but in my experience, assuming the worst has been the most accurate approach for all things Porsche. So weeping freeze plug = pull head + contaminated clutch disk = pull trans & TT. Could it be worse than that? And did I mention that its major cold here ;]
Boy ain't you the optimist Hopefully it's something easier only requiring frostbite and a few severed fingers. That cold has to be a a real PIA; I don't even like working in my garage when it's 55 deg.

I drove the SUV instead of the 944 this morning because of the cold. The SUV whined and whistled which made me happy I did not try to fire up the 944. Last time I tried to run the 924S in the cold I snapped the door handle and had to replace it.

That's a sad pic of the S2. You guys just can't buy a break this Winter. It's been in the 60's here all week which is damn near tropical this time of the year.
What's the Sawzall for?

Actually I have one of those electric radar dish looking heaters but it's so directional it doesn't hep much if I have to move from the car to the engine stand to the bench. I really don't know what would work best for general heating but I know I don't have it.

Sawzall is for my '85. Frame damage means it's easier to slice the front end off to get the engine and crap out!

Yeah, I'd part it out.
PS.. I'm really not all that pessimistic. A big part of the disease is the challenge of keeping a 20 yo car running through the dead of winter and then convincing myself that I like it this way. I just whine to you guys cuz I know you have the same symptoms. Where else will I get sympathy for driving an expensive 20 year old car that is nearly worthless? Wait, I forgot, its an "investment". Yea, yea; thats the ticket.;]

The PO of my Turbo S froze the engine somehow and cracked the block. He got it replaced and covered by insurance, not sure how. Maybe a shop's insurance as he was not inclined to handle tools.
