Trouble finding tires for 7.5Jx16 & 9Jx16 D90's

The front wheels are still 1.5 inches narrower then the rear. Fitting 245 at the front may not look nice on the car. Running 8" inch wheels at the front may be a better option with 245 tyres. 225/50/16 tyres are by far more common then 245/45/16 though. Running 9inch wheels at front may be an overkill though.

"smlporsche" is correct, 245 is considered too wide for the 7.5Jx16 front wheel but correct for the 9Jx16 rear. I don't have any problem finding tons of tires for the front - 225/50ZR16. Tire Rack search generates 8 pages of results for that size. It is the 245/45ZR16 (9Jx16 rear) that generates the lesser tire options and when trying to match up the same manufacturer for both front and rear the list becomes shorter. When you then look at that shorter list and realize that most of the tires listed are up to several generations old in design and manufacturing processes (think Windows 3.1 versus Vista) all that are left is a couple of modern choices. Hankook for example
I am hearing that the 911 (late 80's -early 90's) crowd is experiencing the same issues but with more problems because of the greater width disparity between the front and rear wheels.
Not sure how people are running 245's on all wheels. It is my understanding most S2's came with 7 inch wide front and 8 inch rear wheels. 245's on a 7 inch front wheel seem unsafe from my experience with tires and wheels for other cars. Might work if you put 8 inch wheels on all corners.
Thanks much for the dialog on this. As a newbie to the marque this thread has been very beneficial.

I was also thinking last night that the sizes you are looking for are the sizes I use as rain tires.
I use full tread Toyo RA-1's for rain tires and for a street application they would be great as well.
You're not going to get 30,000 miles out of them but since you live in Hawaii I wouldn't think you'd be driving much more than 5 to 10 K per year.

Interesting comments porschefig and smlporsche. I wonder how wide I can go on the 9" wheel. Does wider always equate to better traction, handling, ride? Or does at some point performance degrades? I have a few weeks before the car and wheels arrive so I can work on what the right/best tire size(s) are. As all of my driving will be warm weather with a bit of rain if I get caught out in it, smlporsche is correct, I won't put more than 5K miles per year.
Are there any interference problems with wide tires in the rear? What sort of max widths are run without problems?

I have run 245's on the same sized wheels, it doesn't look weird or hurt performance. Many racers would agree that it is a preferred way to do things. I can give you pictures if you so desire.

Pics would be helpful. Especially pics of the fron 7.5" wheel and especially on the wider 9" wheel if you have them. Not sure there are any/many options for the rear wheel beyond 245 tire width. 9" should be able to support a 255 or 260 wide tire.... just doesn't seem to be available anywhere. I really want to keep front and rear as same tire manufacturer.

As for width on the 9" rears, I've had 245s, but you should have no trouble at all with a 255 width. My 245s were Dunlop Sport 9000s.
By the way, for years there was a Canadian on these forums named Wes S. who had those wheels on his S2. You may want to do a search on his posts.

Can the 7.5" and 9" D-90's be used on NB 964's. I have also posted this question on the 964 board.
BTW 225/50 and 245/45 are the perfect combo for tire choices, and the Toyo RA 1's are the bomb. Pity they are phasing them out.
TIA

Speaking from memory, I believe the offset on the M030 7.5" D90s fronts is different from the 911 application. Worth checking, though.
