Question 85.5 n/a Tire Question--Less than V rating OK?

So the original equipment was a V rated tire, and I was just told by a tire shop that they wouldn't sell and mount less than a V speed rated tire for liability reasons. I'm sure I can find a shop to mount lower rated tires, but what am I losing if I go to a lower rated tire besides top speed which I know I'll never approach? Am I losing handling? Tirerack only has Michelin Pilot V4s in the stock size with a V rating for all season tires with decent treadwear, both qualities I'd like to have since this is my daily driver. The PO put a single one of these on the car to make up for a worn out old XGT, so I could by three (plenty of tread left). What do people think of Michelins? What do other n/a owners run? I was thinking of Dunlop Sport A2s--an H rated tire, but I'm no Schumacher. However, they get better reviews and ratings than the 2x price V rated Michelins on the Tirerack site.

The speed rating is a MAJOR factor in your cars ability to corner and stop. The higher the speed rating the stiffer the sidewalls. With stiffer sidewalls, you will get less play. V-rated tires will slow you down quicker in an emergency. So, you will be losing a lot of your cars cababilities. I wouldn't do it, I have first hand experience because I have crap tires on my car right now. I'm planning on switching to Toyo Proxes T1-S's once these ones get worn out a bit more. Check out some Toyo Proxes FZ4's. They are V-rated and are relatively inexpensive.

Goodluck!

I'm running H rated Comp-TA's...the tire shop didn't whine at me, and I'm quite happy with them. They can cruise at 100 mph all day.

Me thinks the tire shop just wants to sell you more expensive tires. Go to another shop.
