Can you put the timing belt on wrong?

I did the FOES my self using the Arn tool and Ive been kidding myself since that the cause of my poorly running engine is a rear fuel leak and improperly routed vacuum lines.
IT STARTS, and idles fine, and can rev smooth if you do it slowly, but if you floor it, it coughs, clanks once, drops a few rpm and then revs up almost like normal.
Since I did the FOES I let the sit so long because of this, the clutch has gotten weak.
Just what I need... a failing master cylinder on top of everything else.
oh well

Ohhh my bad I had you confused with Ghost944. I thought you were in Cincinnati.
Nevermind on the boys thing.
Timing belts cant be put on wrong. The timing can be set incorrectly. Which, might cause this.
Check for a vacuum leak. Did you forget to clamp the J boot down or anything else down that you took off?

You are correct to want to confirm timing before anything else. And its relatively easy to do... get the car high enough that you can see the bottom of the bell housing. Rotate the crank till you see the mark (through tiny window at the bottom of the bellhousing). Center that mark in the square window. Peek through the the little round window (next to the distributor), the cam mark should be very close to being in alignment. If yes, you are "in-time." If no, stop. Bruce
