Default 2009 NASA 944 Spec Rules Released

For the 944 spec guys out there and those interested we have completed and published the rules for the NASA 944 spec for 2009.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/2009/944_Spec.pdf

The intent of the is update was to clean up the rules and clealy spell out all you can and can't do to the cars. We expect no changes to the cars will be required to comply with these rules.

If you have more questions about these let me know.

Are Elephant Racing rear trailing arm poly bronze bushings legal? The rules could be interpreted either way in my opinion.

Cool. I hope the section that allows chip, header and flywheel mods increases the sizes of the fields.

I'm on board now more than ever! I really like the clear, concise and fair (in my opinion) changes.

BTW, Joe, I'm dropping my car off tomorrow morning to a cage builder

If the bushing adds more metal than was stock then they are not legal. If the ratio of metal to rubber is the same just using metal to some non metallic then fine.

The two spring plate bushings were 100% rubber stock. These in particular must not contain any metal at all.

hi joe,

im here on the east coast and run with the 944 cup even though my car is pretty much a 944 spec set up -- just not enought 944 specs here in the northeast yet !

question with regards to the bumpers for 944 spec - is there no modification at all -- even to the bumper shocks ??
in the 944 cup series we found out that even a light hit at the correct angle to the front bumper can bend the chassis -- making a very $$ fix...so what some have done is modify the part of the bumper shocks that extendeds into the chassis -- basically the part of the bumper shock that extendeds into the chassis is shortend to prevent this type of injury !

your thoughts ??
thanks

Vito,
944 spec is coming to the north east. Not sure when, but we have seen interest from a few guys in that area and you may see more about it 2009 so stay tuned.

As for the bumper shock mod can you send me pictures? I am not familer with it, but it sounds given the 2009 rules it is not legal. This does not mean it should not be. It just means that for 2009 I did not get in in since I was not aware of it. Also for 2009 944 spec was in the thrid year of our rules freeze. This mean no change others than clarfications. So this meant the 2009 rules were things that either were always understood to be legal, but not spell out or things already ruled legal by me at some point, but not clearly spelled out.

For 2010 the rule will be open for comment and changes by all 944 spec drivers and those interested. So 2010 gives alot more leeway on things that would actually change cars.

Point is that I may not be legal for 2009, but could be proposed for 2010.
