Post 944 Sudden electrical problems, HELP needed.

I posted a long message about some guage troubles earlier, but got no replies...

That said, i switched my tach, hooked everything up, and my temp guage pegs to the right.

When i turn my lights on, with the tach hooked up, the temp guage dies.

If i take the tach off, the temp guage works A-OK, and the lights have no effect upon them. What gives? Do i have another ****ty tach, or is something awry? With my old broken tach, when everything was hooked up, everything but the tach worked fine. I can't figure it out.

Also, my radio suddenly stopped working! A while back the "ACC" wire shorted out and caught fire under my dash (Thought that only happened on British cars ). I just hooked another wire up and it worked fine. Now, the radio will not come on. I have checked all of the connections and it should be OK. Any weird fuses to look at, or any suggestions? All help mucho appreciated!

P.S. If nothing works and i get really stuck, i'm buying an aftermarket tach, pitching the radio, and covering whatever holes there may be with carbon fiber panels. Damnit... I suppose i should be happy as long as the bugger runs.

The car is a 1984 Porsche 944. Manual tranny if that makes it any more specific.

[quote] turn my lights on, with...the temp guage... <hr></blockquote>

Try and error time, I am affraid.
Wiring diagrams for your car can be found here:
<a href="http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_electrical_diagrams.htm" target="_blank">http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_electrical_diagrams.htm</a>

Check the grounds and the wiring in the cluster for failing connectors.
Start with the grounds under the dash and on the battery end (both terminal and on the body.
Clean the lugs and the body part in contact with them, apply a little vaseline to prevent corrosion.
Then tell us if it improved.
