Post Argh... :( someone hit my car (and a dumb Q)

I was filling up with gas this morning, popped the hood to check the oil and noticed that the front right corner of my car has been hit. It hit right below the crease on the fender and was hard enough to make another crease. There's still yellow paint on my car too.

I don't even know when or where it happend. It had to have been a work in the past 2~3 days. But the weird thing is that I park right next to a curb with the curb on that side. There's NO easy way (without 4x4 and climbing over a big grassy area) to hit the car. It's been in my carport other than that and parked NO-where else (I just washed it on Friday so I know the time frame). Pisses me off... nothing I could have done about it anyway since I'm in GA (parking lots are your hazard - there's nothing a cop could do to ensure the other persons insurance paid here).

Asside from that, I've not even put 3k miles on the car so I've yet to do an oil change (was done with the PPI), but I'd like to add a little more oil. Does the fill cap screw on/off or push on/off? Mine is not moving a bit - I even took to it with pliars for extra leverage and quit when I saw the plastic deflecting. It can't be this difficult.

<img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> can't believe I'm the first owner of this car to have to deal with someone hitting me.

Sorry to hear that Brian - Is the crease on the passenger door at all? I wonder what could have tagged the car that low....

Brian,
That stinks...I totally understand you being pissed.

You said there was grass near where you parked you car. Have they cut the grass in the last few days? I'm wondering if someone hit your car with a lawn mower, or some other equipment.

As far as the oil filler cap is concerned, mine tends to get very tight as well. I also once had to use some pliers to get it off because it felt like it had been super-glued on.

Sorry to hear about the damage. Hope you get it resolved soon.

That really sucks. I'm very sorry to hear about it. RE the oil filler cap, one trick is to wrap a rag around it and grab all of it, not just the top, to turn it. This usually works for me.

I was thinking of lawn equipment too. They swing those big tractors around like they're on a BMX bike or something.

I hope you can figure it out and hopefully track down the one responceable.

Sorry to hear about this, Brian.

That oil filler cap and tube are made out of some crazy sort of composite that just loves to get bound and stuck. You might want to apply a pair of channel locks with rubber in the teeth.

I put some silicone grease on my threads which seems to have solved the problem. Use some of what is left over from the battery cable kit you will get. That stuff won't start melting and running untill over 400F.

That sucks a lot. Maybe it was a 12 year old on a bike, pretending to be on jackass because they are his idols.

Sorry to hear about that, Brian.

I had the same thing happen to my 944. Some anonymous *** hit the front left fender and left a nasty 3-4" crease. No note of explanation or anything like that. I just discovered the damage in my own garage.

What really sucks is that like your car, my 17-year old vehicle had no accident history. 'Twas all original paint.

You might take a look at my recent post on the "Ding King." Much to my surprise, this little $20 device has done a pretty good job of getting the worst of the crease out of my fender. It isn't perfect, but it's a LOT better than it was before.

Thanks all... I doubt it was lawn-care or street sweepers cause I'm working 11pm~7am shifts and there's no evidence that anything was done. I got a better look when the sun popped out today and the paints cracked there too - but it appears to just be pushed in, and not really creased. To clarify Where was hit, it's the right fender right where it meets the headlight/nose/air dam - looks like it was run into while parking a car (or backing up from another space). I'm thinking that someone was in the spot across the isle and just backed into me while trying to extract their car. Only I've NEVER seen a yellow car in our parking lot and neither have the few co-workers I've told.

I'm hoping the temps come up enough that my water won't freeze while washing a car and I'm going to take to the area with some rubbing compound to see if the scrapes come out. Fortunatally I had Several layers of Blitz Wax on there in prep for the winter, so I'm hopefull that the scratches come out. Then the dent can be delt with as needed. It's nowhere near as bad as Seans blemish.

I got the oil filler off - it was a bit easier with the engine cold, but I still thought the damn cap was going to break/shatter the way it was flexing.

Got the same crease on the passenger (right) side. Super market parking lot.

Yellow? Fork lift?
