This product is a mixture of propane and isobutane. The same stuff you BBQ with (propane) and the same stuff you light your cigarettes and bongs with (isobutane). These hydrocarbons make extremely efficient refrigerants if mixed in the proper proportions. Envirosafe is a 50/50 mix; 62/48 is usually ideal when attempting to duplicate the pressure/temperature characteristics of R12. It's cheap, carries mineral oil very well, and doesn't require any system mods (i.e. condenser, o-rings or lubricant) and, as the name suggests, it's environmentally safe (no CFC's). It is flammable. Hydrocarbons, by the way, have been used extensively as refrigerants in Canada and Australia for decades.
The ingeniously located fuel lines in a 944/951 are a bigger fire hazard IMO.

Hi Guys..
I am not a "purist" by any means, and I have not looked up the chemical contents of this particular product. It may work, but it is a blend. As such, if future work is required by a ddealer, they will be mightily pi$$ed if they find out later that the contents of your system contaminated their EPA required recovery tanks. Only "pure" refrigerants can carry the letter "R" in front of the number designation, hence the R12, R134a designations. Interdynamics (no, I have no stock in the company, just like their products) have R134a compatable sealants, oils and kits.
Good luck

Let us know how it works out.

And just how do you get a 62/48 mix???

The home page for the entire thing is
www.btt.org
I put this in my car when I put the new compressor on a few months ago. So far so good. One big thing is that the conflict of moisture is reduced and if it is released, it only has a 1yr life. You also do not put this in under vacuum. Charge the system to about 16psi,,I think,,it was about 2 cans. We probably could have put a touch more in but it was cooling great. It has worked well so far; it has kept the wife very happy. As for me,,sunroof out, windows down, and enough speed,,,enough A/C.
Oh yeah,,if you have a leak, they put a PINE scent in it. When we punctured the first can, they were not lying.

I have an S2 I am converting into a track only car but would like to keep my AC. (for the drive to the track)
but have no desire to replace everything in the AC system. My mechanic about 2 years ago told me there was a small leak around one of the AC fittings but charged the system because he said it might just be an O ring in need of some lubrication. The AC lasted all summer (georgia Summer) this summer it is blowing hot.
my question is this can I buy the $49.00 kit from these people and just charge the system or do I need to prep the system in some way?
And what would I need to do this at home?

If the kit they sell has a way to dispense the product, meaning a can tap with shut off valve, then in theory the only thing you will need is to convert the fittings on your current system to R134A fittings, which I believe is the ones used for this kit.Let us know the results if you do this.

Yes you do need to update to 134 fittings.(2)I would think that the system should be vac out ,hen it seems like you could do it your self,,you might need a pressure gauge,so you dont over charge it,that will ruin the compressor.

Has anyone heard of Genetron 500? I have a 30lb jug that came with some commercial r12 equipment 10 years ago as an r12 replacement. I've used it in my 944 and 1/2 doz of my friends cars and it works excellent. Paul, if you can get to New Bedford I'll dump some in your car for free.

Many states in the USA (18 I think) ban the use of a flammable gas in the A/C system of you car.
I bought a case of a product like this one to use in my old truck. I still have not installed any of it yet because I live in one of the banned states and because of servicability issues.
